The 60th at Sherman, and Why the Entrance Moved

2026 is Sherman Library and Gardens' 60th anniversary year, and a large portion of the garden is fenced off for a reimagining with the entrance door moved to the corner of Dahlia. The current experience does not include all of the grounds and exhibits. The Gardens have stayed open through the work. On August 15 the garden opens from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the Petals & Pistons Car Show, a celebration of design, detail, and community in a setting unlike any other, with food and beverages available for purchase. The pairing of vintage sheet metal against the palm collection is the kind of specific tableau that doesn't repeat itself anywhere else in Orange County.

The Fall Festival is the one to book early. The 7th Annual CdM Fall Festival Meet & Greet gathers over 350 residents, businesses, and neighborhood friends at Sherman Library & Gardens, where the autumn foliage transports visitors to a country scene of pumpkins. Coast Highway, with plenty of parking in the structure behind the restaurant. If your usual routine involves grabbing a table on a Friday without a reservation, the added capacity should ease that considerably for the fall.

Beyond that, the anchor tenants that shape most locals' habits are still the ones you already know. In 2009, the Frank family refurbished and reopened the traditional British pub at Five Crowns as Corona del Mar's first and only English-style gastropub, SideDoor, with entry on Poppy Street under the big red key. Foretti's CDM opened in 2013 and continues under Thaddeus Foret, specializing in Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana-certified wood-fired pizzas baked in a 900 degree oven with techniques and ingredients used in Naples. If you have not been in since ownership changed hands, the pizza program is the reason to go back.

For a slower morning, Rose Bakery Cafe and Zinc Cafe Market on Avocado remain the two places where the queue is a feature rather than a problem, and Nagisa on East Coast Highway is still the neighborhood's quiet consensus pick for sushi that doesn't require the drive to Fashion Island.

The Christmas Walk is the event with the most misconceptions attached to it, largely because it's grown enough that the version residents attended a decade ago is not the version happening this December.

The Corona del Mar Christmas Walk returns December 6, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is the 47th year. The community event celebrates the merchants and restaurants of the Corona del Mar Village, drawing thousands of friends, neighbors, and business owners into the district, with live entertainment staging over 17 local bands.

The specifics worth knowing if you are hosting people:

• The beer and wine garden is located in Bandera's lower parking lot with signature band Pinch Me, at $10 entry and $10 per beer, wine, or champagne pour.
• Pinch Me plays the Bandera's lot while strolling carolers work Sherman Library & Gardens, the NBFD Fireman's Grill runs hot dogs, and stilt walkers and a magician move along the sidewalks of Coast Highway.
• The Christmas Walk benefits the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots Program and is presented by the Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce.

The practical read on all of that: parking on PCH between Marguerite and Poppy is unusable from about 10 a.m. onward, so if you live in the flats and have guests coming from the Hills, tell them to park up top and walk down.
